Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month Events

Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month Events
November 30, 2017 Linda Davies

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month! In recognition, the Domestic Violence Center of SCV is hosting two events in the community to encourage discussion and reflection on the pervasive issue.

A Walk in Their Shoes

The traveling display A Walk in Their Shoes consists of 4 pairs of white Vans painted by a local artist. These shoes depict the story of a teen who experienced dating violence, along with a quote from the survivor’s story about the reality of teen dating violence. To give the onlooker the feel of “standing in their shoes”, a low crate will display each pair on the ground. Various locations throughout the Santa Clarita Valley (tbd) are to host the shoes on February 1, 2, 5, 6, 12, and 13.

 A Night of Expression

Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month concludes with A Night of Expression, a multi-media art exhibit open to the community for both participation and viewing. In order to make the display as community-oriented as possible, we seek any local submissions in the following categories: film, photography, and illustration/painting.  Each submission focuses on the topic of teen dating violence, bringing awareness to both the severity of the issue as well as the empowerment of the survivor. The exhibit will be held at the Savia Center on February 23rd from 7-9 pm. We wish for the evening to center on sharing the reality of teen dating violence among our youth. There is empowerment through awareness!

Please follow the link for submission guidelines! Please direct any questions to Leah Parker at lparker@dvc-scv.org or 661-259-8175.
